The six wires that come out of the winding of a three-phase asynchronous motor can be divided into two basic wiring methods:

delta (Δ) wiring and star (Y) wiring.

The six wires refer to the three windings of the motor, each having a start and a end point, making a total of three start points and three end points. When measuring with a multimeter, the same winding should have continuity between its start and end points, i.e. U1 to U2, V1 to V2, and W1 to W2.

1. Delta (Δ) Wiring of Three-phase Asynchronous Motor

Delta (Δ) wiring is a connection method that connects the three start and end points of the motor windings in sequence to form a triangle, as shown below:(inserted image of delta wiring)

2. Star (Y) Wiring of Three-phase Asynchronous Motor

Star (Y) wiring is a connection method where the three end points or start points of the three windings are connected together, and the other three wires are connected to the power supply. The wiring is shown below:(inserted image of star wiring)
